<ϑ><ϑ> eyelid movies

Well whaddya know, Burning Man kicked ass again. About 30 of us, hailing mainly from SF and LA, pitched in to set up and run the Lorax Lounge. As you might expect, a bunch of crazy shit happened both at the Lounge and elsewhere. Here’s an infintesimal speck of it that I stitched together using iMovie HD:

To sum things up: our crew ran a 400 sq’ foot shaded bar called the “Lorax Lounge”, complete with kegs, a cooling chamber, engraved Lorax logo, and wily Australian bartender. No registered theme or official blueprints, but we had help from some early-arrivers in securing a corner spot and got a good bit of foot traffic when we were open. Camp maintenance (including battling the worst weather I’ve seen in 7 years) ate up a lot of the daytime, but the night conditions were exceptional and the exploring was as fun as ever.

Some highlights:

• dancing at 5 mph alongside DJ Motion Potion’s merry-go-round art car colossus
• honky-tonking on piano at the Paddy Mirage (Irish pub)
• luminescent ambiance at camp! woohoo generator!
• new blinkcessories: camelback “woot” LED, green laser navigation
• following Max’s el-wire cube head beacon on bikes
• charlie can’t keep his pants on from the heat under max’s roving “VIP room” blacklight umbrella
• all hands on deck for first storm, a dignified death for shady katy
• Q practices his mayorial megaphone meet-n-greet schtick with promises of free beer, sex, and hospitality
• max’s bike enters the pearly gates of burner bike heaven early
• my stuttering, squeaking, ailing bike chain suddenly heals itself *completely* in a sunset playa miracle
• charlie’s magical mystery cartridges at the cubatron
• packed playa empties out in minutes after rangers start fanning rumors of 60 mph alpha storm incoming
• jon’s megaphone bartending comforts the huddled masses through the rain, lures us out for double rainbow
• stabby the fluffy pillow slices his way into our memories, and our sausage
• cheery vibe^ during moto-shade planning and building
• friendly negotiations^ with older neighbor lady about not walking thru their camp space
• burning man conspires to conduct target practice on my ass using belts, cattle-prods, and tattoos
• team dedication to finding my hastily-abandoned bike after the burn (*sniff* you guys are the best)
• being professionally disciplined by not-so-nice girl behind me in post office line (steep payment for my stamp)
• realizing after the fact that some douchebag was filming the whole disciplining session
• finding the Unimog “somewhere out there” party imMEDiately after setting out to look for it
• sharing nick’s chocolate cigar with our japanese psy-trance cronies at sunrise (arigato!)
• hitching ride with half of camp on passing art car to bring burnable bar fragments to fire pits
• nearly falling asleep about 50 times before pulling off on the drive back to Reno
• phone call!
